Issue

Ive been extremely busy for the past few weeks with assignments, test, presentations piling up and I just got bored. So I decided to take a break and decided to find a new tv series that I can watch now that all my favourite series are either canceled or havent entered its latest season. I decided to check out 'the secret live of american teenager'. Since Im just too lazy to write my own synopsis, heres an overview I got from wikipedia

Centered around fictional teen Amy Juergens, The Secret Life of the American Teenager explores how Amy's pregnancy affects her, the baby's father, her friends, and her family. The news of her pregnancy puts additional strain on her parents' already rocky marriage, but brings Amy closer with her younger sister Ashley, her new boyfriend, Ben, the father of her baby, Ricky, as well as with other teens atUlysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, California. Amy's world expands as she learns that virtually every teen at Grant High carries a secret or unexpected problem.

Why I think this show is very interesting is because it highlights the common problems teenagers face nowadays. This show has got its fare share of haters stating that its not realistic etc. However to me what's important is the message that it is trying potray. Teen pregnancy happens everywhere so does abortion and divorce. Obviously people would not act as cool or as proper to that sought of things like in this show but cant we see that the writer is trying to show us how we SHOULD react. Again many other stuffs in this show are debatable but it is really a matter of choice whether you want to get the message or just antagonize all the messages.

So what about Issue(title of post)?Lately Malaysian politics are getting more and more irrelevant. WE are just soo caught up with race related issues and it is getting more ridiculous each day.I wonder whether our leaders have put so much emphasize on this matter and have overlooked other problems. There hasnt been much attention given to social problems. I just think that issues such as healthcare, economy, education, teenagers, family development are equally important and needs to be address. What are we doing to solve these problems? Are we doing enough?I cant see any significant moves to engage on all this social issues. Even if there are efforts to improve this situation dont blame me if I cant see it. There hasnt been much reports about this issue in newspapers. It is a shame that in US they are vigorously debating about the healthcare issue and we are still stuck with cow head protestor as the main news.

In this context I think the media have got to play a more meaningful role. Why fight for freedom of press if freedom if it is just used for politicking purposes. Freedom of press should be more than that. Perhaps sensitive issues such as teen pregnancy could be given a fair account so that at least these type of issues can be addressed. Public awareness is extremely important especially in issues that involves the community. In conclusion, in order for Malaysia to move forward it is highly essential that people are being exposed important issue rather than focussing on trivial issues and not gain anything from it.

Adelaide University Union Election 2009

ITs election time in Adelaide Uni! This week students of the university of Adelaide will be voting for their new student representative council. I can see lots of politics and history students running in the election. As a matter of fact todays international politics lecture was half empty!I guess they were busy campaigning outside! To my fellow adelaide comrades I here are the preview of the contesting parties. If you are interested go vote for them!

Activate-progressive,active,accountable

I would say they form the current student body. Most of their candidates are running to retain their seat in the student body. I was being told that they are know to be labour-left which is very appealing to me. They also promised more engagement with the students. Regarding this matter I did stressed to one of the candidates if they win they really should deliver this promise. Students needs to be engaged consistently in order for them to feel represented. All in one a strong party with realistic promises. Most of my votes went to their candidates.

Innovate

Here we have a party with lots to offer for the international student communities. One of my tutor mate is running for them. From what I've seen she has got impressive oratory skill and like-able character. However I'm not really sure about their manifesto, seems to be too good to be truth. An international student village in the uni?I wonder how are they planning to deliver their promises. As always despite having some doubts some of my votes(we are voting for many posts and we are allowed to pick a few candidates from different parties) did go to them. In a nutshell heres a party that offers lots of new faces as candidates(i was told),aligned to labor party-right,with many benefits being offered to international students.

Indygo

An independent party not affilated to any political link. Not very appealing to me but according to their flyers this party have representatives in the current SRC. They achieved everything that they promised last year. The appealing bit of this party is their catchphrase student control of students affair.
